EGLĖ NARBUTAITĖ

„Hatching”

Egle Narbutaite uses metal warehouse plates as her canvas to depict sleeping bodies going through the process of hatching just before waking up. This process is like preparing to be born all over again – hatching takes you from one stage of development to the next one. It is not necessarily a pleasant process. The uncomfortable positions of the sleepers’ bodies symbolise various psychological hardships and the effort to overcome them, while the peaceful expressions on their faces show that they know this state is only a temporary one. In their own time, each one will hatch and rise to their full height.
